about

Working on Something is a five song collection about dealing with it all, the Ups and Downs, Ins and Outs, Losts and Founds. This is an EP that was started with the intention of being a stripped down recording but morphed into something more, influences from John Prine, Guy Clark, and Kris Kristofferson with a slightly modern twist. This is thoughtful, inside the mind stuff with the lining of throwing all the shit out and trying to get to a good place.

Track Name: Chill Out Night
Thinking 'bout the clothes in the dryer
I put 'em in two days before
But, that was the night I was gonna chill out
And listen to the radio on the floor

Then the phone rang and I don't think
That I know anyone from Kansas
Guess this call's not for me at all
Good idea not to answer

Your grandpa said I must be running
And you know sometimes I think I'm a bum
Just tell him I'm working on something
But I won't know what it is til I'm done

That drove me down and out to the bar
All the usuals were there
A horse, two monkeys, a salesman and a priest
Were looking at the blindman stare

That one drink turned into a dozen
'Cause their jokes had me glued to the floor
And then last call had gotten me involved
In stumbling through the door

Your grandpa said I must be running
And you know sometimes I think I'm a bum
Just tell him I'm working on something
But I won't know what it is til I'm done

All these years they've been counting me
Now I'm down to counting change
If I did things differently
Maybe time would do the same

Well a very good friend he gave me a tune
Said every day's a good day to die
I can't tell if he's right or wrong
'Cause why am I still alive

It'd be a lie to say that I never saw
A skeleton through the glass
But everyone's got different reasons
For kicking themselves in the ass

Your grandpa said I must be running
And you know sometimes I think I'm a bum
Just tell him I'm working on something
But I won't know what it is til I'm done
Track Name: Lost and Found
Found three lucky pennies
Swept them from the floor
Well, I hope Mr. Lincoln
Comes to my door

Straighten up the photos
So no one stands alone
I love this house that I call my home

Yeah, they always told me which way's up
And which way's down
But they always kept from me which way's in
And which way's out
So put me in the lost and found

There's a ghost that haunts the staircase
Got me questioning my sight
Run my hand down the wall
When I shut out the lights

Blocking up the hallway
Wood creaks when I'm standing still
Feel myself walk through something
And I get a chill

Yeah, they always told me which way's up
And which way's down
But they always kept from me which way's in
And which way's out
So put me in the lost and found

First I lost my pride
Then I lost my voice
Seems like there were times
I didn't have a choice

Just a new coat of paint
I'll build up from the past
Wind the clock that keeps me spinning
So the seconds don't run so fast

I can walk in my own footsteps
Follow the echo of a voice
I don't like the sound
But I need the noise

I hope to keep my feet
Lend out both my hands
'Cause a wall won't hold
If a wall can't stand

Yeah, they always told me which way's up
And which way's down
But they always kept from me which way's in
And which way's out
So put me in the lost and found
Track Name: Rocket Ship
Well, hanging around here will get you feeling mighty funny
Thinking like a rocket ship
Looking at a fuse

She don't need to be anything
Just a flower in the sunshine
Laughing like she do

There's been days and days of rain
And I look to see the flood
Tomorrow might bring
I won't be standing there
I won't be washed away

I know it's getting late and I see I should be leaving
I'll be gone awhile
But I won't be gone too far

It's just been too many days and too many nights
Of reading all the the writing
In the bathroom at the bar

There's been days and days of rain
And I look to see the flood
Tomorrow might bring
I won't be standing there
I won't be washed away

The sun it's been shining and it sure is getting warmer
But, look at all that moss
Growing on that standing stone

Well I'd rather be rockin' and I'd much rather be rollin'
I'd rather be out singing
All the songs inside my bones

There's been days and days of rain
And I look to see the flood
Tomorrow might bring
I won't be standing there
I won't be washed away
Track Name: Sirens
The changing color weather
brings the echoes of September
Blowing in a whistle
Through my window late at night

The sounds of the sirens
That mix the dead with the dying
The dancers who won't go
To their graves without a fight

Footprints line the city
Folks are all dressed up with pity
There are those who won't wear a coat
Til the cold cuts them deep inside

A leaf fell down without looking up
Into a bank account in a styrofoam cup
A pair of eyes that couldn't get a smile
All the neighbors just refused

Don't wait for time
It ignores you
And it wouldn't hardly bend
To see the soul inside of man
Even if that flame was burning bright and blue

There's squares and lines of people
Stuck in the shadows of the steeple
Seeking relief or pardon
For a crime they didn't choose

While tucked inside the building
Voices echo to the ceiling
Just be thankful for what you got
Be happy you're alive

Don't wait for time
It ignores you
And it wouldn't hardly bend
To see the soul inside of man
Even if that flame was burning bright and blue
Track Name: Wandering Boy
I am the last one in my line
I am the last one in my line
My family blew away and left here in 29
I am the last one in my line

I'm working in steel traps and caves
I'm working in steel traps and caves
How I'd love to go to town when I come to get my pay
But, I'm working in steel traps and caves

I wear my boots and shovel all day long
I wear my boots and shovel all day long
I spend the best part of my day just waiting for my calling
I wear my boots and shovel all day long

But, if I were a wandering boy
If I were a wandering boy
I'd dance and sing for you, for some of your loose coins
If I were a wandering boy
